Conventional motor proteins such as myosin, kinesin and dynein existing in the eukaryote have been studied for long time. Thus, the mechanism about torque generation in these cases is well understood. For another thing, prokaryotic organisms like some bacteria (E. coli, Vibrio, Mycoplasma and so on) are movable because of having some motor proteins. However, with respect to these kinds of motor proteins, the mechanism of torque generation is still obscure. The motor proteins in the prokaryotic organisms have common character that is highly organized, highly concerted inside of cell and movable. Thus, we called them as Supra-molecular Motion Machinery. Meanwhile, an evolutionary history of lives in the earth can be well explained by the diversity of these motors.
In our grant, we focus on the motility and the torque generation of Supra-molecular Motion Machinery and study them by use of microbiology, genetics, biochemistry, biophysics and structural biology and so on toward well understanding the basic mechanism. Furthermore, we will try to develop a visualization technology with nanoscopic scale resolution and to apply it in our field.

According to our research plan, to promote our research achievement, we are recruiting some research plans. Especially, the researchers with new ideas or new cutting edge of crossing fields or with relative structural biology background are encouraged to apply research funding in our grant.
