Video archives

Here, we establish an online video library where a series of movies relevant to motility are available. The miscellaneous category includes bacteria, eukaryotes, and archaea, viruses, proteins, and synthetic polymers. The movies that are meaningful in the biology field will be uploaded in both Japanese and English.

For the contributors who plan to upload your video, you should keep in mind the following suggestions:
(1) the video which is relative to the object of your research
(2) the video about microbe found in the research activity of the super-science high school or biological clubs are encouraged to upload
(3) Do not forget to add the link of your video which has been published (Please make sure the copyright)
(4) If you think some videos in the old textbook are valuable to upload, please let us know.

Eukaryote
Feasting on particles

Species name:undefined

AL-Museum AL-Museum

Particles in the river are composed of organic debris, aggregated soil particles, sand grains and minerals. Their surface is covered with nutrients and numerous bacteria, so various kinds of small protozoa take turns feeding. They appear to be enjoying the feast.

Eukaryote
Looking for food

Species name:Uroleptus

AL-Museum AL-Museum

A ciliate is foraging on the surface of particles with a mouth at the end of its bottleneck. Its slendar body tapers at the rear end, and both front and rear are covered with dense cilia.

Eukaryote
Foraging for food around particles

Species name:Uroleptus

AL-Museum AL-Museum

The front of this slendar ciliate is like a long bottle-neck and its rear end is like a needle. Both ends are denbsly covered with cilia. The organism forages for food by repeatedly inserting its head into a particle and quickly withdrawing it. The enlarged view shows food being transferred from its mouth to the inside of the body.

Eukaryote
A jumping ciliate

Species name:Uronema, Tribonema

AL-Museum AL-Museum

A tiny ciliate with a indentation in the middle of its body is completely still. Its cilia are extended but unmoving, as if it were in a coma. For some reason, it suddenly jumps to another location. How is such a quick reaction possible from a state of immobility ?
